Opening reception March 8, 2008 from 7- 10 pm

Show runs through March 30, 2008

Shotgun Space is pleased to announce Nature Morte, an exhibition bringing together the work of Alana Celii, Nicole Jean Hill, and Yuki Ando.

The photographs and sculpture on display all examine, in disparate ways, humankind's relationship to the natural environment.

Previously featured in if something has to change at Shotgun Space, Yuki Ando's intricate, delicate sculptures utilize beautifully carved wood and sculpted materials to present fantastic hybrids of the natural and the synthetic.

In Reclamation, Nicole Jean Hill proffers striking landscape photographs of idyllic Midwestern farmland that belie their nature as, in fact, Ten Views of a Nebraska Landfill, while her Critters portraits "examine the ambiguous borders between reliance, interaction and imposition" that occur as a result of the subjugation of the natural world.

Finally, in her photographs of simulated ecosystems in The Wild and exteriors of The West, Alana Celii examines how human activity is reshaping the natural landforms and altering them into an idealized space. She writes:

Both types of landscapes are a modern conception. The interiors are a way of viewing and learning about what is natural. The exteriors are a remnant of what was once natural, but are now decayed and abandoned. Although these spaces are both still strangely beautiful, there is a subtle but ominous presence of how we will view landscapes in the future.

Nature Morte will be on display at Shotgun Space through March 30th, with an artist's reception on March 8, from 7 to 10 pm.
